Gas Fire Back Boilers
These boilers fit inside the chimney breast of a Class 1 flue and have a gas fire attached to the front. Hot and cold water storage tanks are usually needed with this type of boiler.

Baxi Bermuda High Efficiency Back Boiler

This is a new innovation that combines the convenience of directly replacing an existing back boiler with a high efficiency condensing boiler.

Baxi back boilers originally became popular in the late 1960's - with the launch of the original Baxi Bermuda.  So reliable was the Baxi back boiler that it quickly accounted for 80% of back boiler installations. Now, around 90% of back boiler installations feature the Baxi model.  However, recent advances in Baxi technology mean that they are now able to offer a back boiler that's considerably more efficient - great news for homeowners and the environment.  Replacing an old back boiler with the new Bermuda HE will help homeowners waste less energy while also reducing carbon emissions.  And as the only high efficiency back boiler to serve as a direct replacement, the Baxi Bermuda HE is also the most convenient way to replace your existing model.  No major disruption or redecoration, and no need to find extra space for a wall-hung boiler!

Conventional Boiler
These use a balanced flue for improved efficiency and fit to or near an outside wall. Hot and Cold water storage tanks are used or sometimes a ‘pressure vessel’ can take the place of the cold water tanks(known as a ‘system boiler’) .  They can be wall mounted or floor standing.  Due to newer regulations only higher efficiency condensing boilers are now installed.

Combination Boiler
A 'Combi' provides instantaneous hot water and capacity to heat radiators. A combi system does not require hot and cold storage tanks. As the boiler produces hot water on demand you never run out of hot water.  They can be wall mounted or floor standing.

Condensing Boiler
This is an extra high efficiency boiler available in conventional and combination versions. It attains higher efficiency by extracting additional heat from the hot flue gasses that normally escape to the outside through the flue in a traditional boiler.  They can be wall mounted or floor standing.

Please remember that installing gas appliances is not a DIY job. All gas appliances must be installed by a qualified Gas Safe registered engineer (Gas Safe have replaced CORGI).  The information given here is a guide only. To confirm suitability of any gas fire to work correctly with your flue or chimney you should employ a qualified Gas Safe registered engineer to conduct a site survey and report. We recommend that you have your flue checked prior to ordering, as the return of an unsuitable product that is not faulty may incur a handling and re-stocking charge.
